Tuesday evening I had a freelance assignment for “Country Weekly” to cover the ninth-annual Dressed to Kilt fashion show and party, benefiting Sean Connery’s Friends of Scotland organization. This year’s theme was “Country Chic,” which brought to New York a number of country music superstars, including Amy Grant, Kix Brooks, Kellie Pickler, Gary Allen and Stealing Angels, as well as TV and movie stars and athletes.
The event’s red carpet was set up beautifully, so that photogs, camera crews and print press all got their turn to do their duty with the guest celebs. I was able to get quotes from each of the artists, and even met guest Donald Trump, which was a gas. My “Country Weekly” webbie story is here, with an upcoming follow-up piece for the print edition in the coming week.Yes, indeed, Donald Trump, whom I met, with Melania Trump. On right, Donald Trump Jr. with wife Vanessa.Working the red carpet… actor Billy Connolly…Above: Amy Grant, with daughters Millie and Sarah and stepdaughter Jenny Gill; former pro rugby player Thom Evans (yowsah!). Below: LX TV host Sara Gore and co-host George Oliphant; Orlando Villella.
Below: “30 Rock” actress Katrina Bowden, actress and model Stacy Keibler, Scottish singer/songwriter Paolo Nutini and country singer/songwriter Kix Brooks; the darling country star and “American Idol” alumnus Kellie Pickler; country singer Gary Allen and the plaid-wrapped Mercedes coupe he arrived in to the event; model Marcus Schenkenberg.
The “peak” of the evening: actors Brian Cox, Jim Gaffigan, Chris Noth, Kiefer Sutherland and Jason Patric, who are all starring in Broadway’s “A Conversation with the Champion.”
