Longtime Smoking Nun fave Joe Manganiello is finally cashing in on that hot bod. The 36-year-old actor’s new book Evolution: The Cutting Edge Guide to Breaking Down Mental Walls and Building the Body You’ve Always Wanted (subtitle: I’m So Damn Hot!) will smack shelves December 3. Merry Christmas, indeed!
Yup, I can sure live with that… People magazine has named its 2012 Sexiest Man Alive as Channing Tatum, who electrified the screen this year with Magic Mike… not to mention bringing to the big screen a hot & hunky cast that included Joe Manganiello, Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, Alex Pettyfer and Alex Rodriguez.
Here’s what People writes about Tatum in advance of the Sexiest Man issue that comes out Friday, November 16… He may have bared (almost) all of that incredibly chiseled body in this year’s Magic Mike but 2012’s Sexiest Man Alive Channing Tatum was still modest when he heard the news: “My first thought was, ‘Y’all are messing with me,'” says Tatum, who married actress Jenna Dewan-Tatum in 2009. “I told Jenna after we’d been in the bathtub washing our dogs because they’d gotten skunked.”
Her Alabama-bred heartthrob of a husband is also a sculptor who quotes Edgar Allan Poe, loves to give her massages and can’t wait to start their family. “I’m ready; I think she’s ready,” Tatum, 32, says.
“The first number that pops into my head is three, but I just want one to be healthy and then we’ll see where we go after that. It’s really easy for us guys to say, ‘I want like 15 kids. Jenna will be like, ‘Well you better get another wife!'”
Currently training to play an Olympic athlete in next year’s Foxcatcher, Tatum is all heart and muscle at 195 pounds. “I like to be lean. If I get too bulky I can’t move well and I like to move,” he says. “When I’m not training, I get really round and soft.” Which is just fine by his wife. “People know him to be fun and sexy, but they don’t know how emotionally deep and spiritually open he is,” says Dewan-Tatum, 31. “He is such an open-hearted person; what you see is what you get.”

Joe Manganiello, who dons his biceps on the November 2012 cover of Oz’s Men’s Health—another in a series of sexy mag fronts over the past year—has given us one more reason to fall in love with The Smoking Nun’s 2011 Sexiest Man Alive.
Earlier this month, he presented his pal, Magic Mike co-star Matt Bomer, with an “Inspiration Award” at the 8th Annual Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network’s (GLSEN) Awards. There, he also shared his views on civil rights for all: “You are the example that the rest of our country needs to wake up and see in terms of equality and putting an end to the bullying epidemic and making sure that every family is respected in our schools and our society.” Sweet!
Other news: Channing Tatum says he may want to direct the supposedly coming sequel to Magic Mike: “It’s too good of a movie, and the characters are so crazy, that we want to go for it. We feel like we did the little indie version last time, and for the next one, we want to up the stakes, maybe go even farther.” Previous director Steven Soderbergh says he has retired for good, this time, and is not up for Magic Mike 2. Tatum adds it may be a while before MM2 materializes: “We’re not going to direct our first movie as a sequel to a Steven Soderbergh movie. That’s not smart. I want to start with something very small, make a lot of mistakes, make them real early, then jump in on Magic Mike 2.” *
Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara were voted the “Sexiest Man and Woman” on People magazine’s 2012 Emmys poll. Meanwhile, Joe covers two mags: the Spring/Summer (huh?) 2012 issue of Australia’s Remix mag; and Summer Girl. We have the pics!
Manganiello recently grew a full-on beard for his role as werewolf Alcide Herveaux in the upcoming sixth season HBO’s True Blood, which begins filming in January. He also trained for five months to add muscle for the role, following his beefy role in Magic Mike.
There’s still talk of a follow-up flick after the enormous success of Mike. Manganiello told Hollywood.com earlier this year, “We’re actually talking about the possibility of doing a prequel… because if you want to do the sequel, then you lose Mike [Channing Tatum]. Otherwise, what’s Mike going to do? So you would do the prequel, and how they got there.”
Tatum also is up for the idea: “Yes, yes and yes!” he tweeted in a Glamour interview over the summer about the possibility of a second Magic Mike installment. “We’re working on the concept now. We want to flip the script and make it bigger.” And as we all know, bigger is better when it comes to Joe.*
According to an interview with Glamour U.K., Channing Tatum says that after the wicked success of Magic Mike, a sequel is in the works. Jezebel reports that a month ago, Tatum was saying, “This will be my swan song, I will never do or talk anything about stripping after this ever, ever again.”
But that was, of course, before Magic Mike cleared $77 million at the box office in less than two weeks (it cost $7 million to make). Now, he says that director Steven Soderbergh is on board for a sequel: “Yes, yes and yes! We’re working on the concept now. We want to flip the script and make it bigger.”
Um, bigger? Why, what do you mean, Channing? Let’s hope that Joe Manganiello is on board, along with Matthew McConaughey (who’s pretty integral to the plot). And maybe… just maybe, William Levy can make up for his previous sin of turning down a role in the smash flick. Bigger and better, indeed. Ooh la la! *“Dwts Team Levy Womens Fitted T (Dark) Shirt”
Score!! The first movie of 2012 I’ve seen in a theater was as much fun as I’d hoped. Magic Mike delivers tons of A&A (abs and ass), with sexy dance routines and more than enough gratuitous physical male beauty. It’s about time the playing field was equalized, huh?
As expected, the “plot” about Channing Tatum and his love interest was a needless distraction… and I remain dumbfounded at just how wholly unappealing female lead Cody Horn is. Amid so much machismo, it was distracting to have to gaze at her horse face in every other scene. Of course, it all makes sense when you discover that Horn’s father is chairman of Walt Disney Studios and was previously president of Warner Bros. Hello, nepotism.
Ah, but the scintillating charms of easy on the eyes Matthew McConaughey, a surprsingly beautiful Alex Pettyfer, pretty boy Matt Bomer, handsome Channing, smoking Adam Rodriguez… and of course my man Joe Manganiello, which all made up for such a slight distraction. The flick is indeed fun, sexy and effectively delivered, so you don’t feel like you contributed cash for a soft porn extravaganza that is as dim-witted as a Nicki Minaj song. Good times! *
