>Honest to god, it started out as a work night. Billboard No. 1 dance artist and friend Sylvia Tosun and her production and life partner Anton Bass invited me to their beautiful highrise West Side digs for dinner and an interview to update the web site for their indie label Sea To Sun.
We started with plentiful wine, animated conversation and dinner… and just as we were ready to settle down to business… the doorbell rings. It was Sylvia’s pal Countess Luann de Lesseps, one of Bravo’s Real Housewives of New York, whom I had met at events for Sylvia and parties with Liz Derringer in the Hamptons. She’s a doll, a blast and a true socialite… classy lady.
The doorbell rings again. It’s another friend named Cat. And then again. I can’t even remember who the third spontaneous guest of the night was, but the wine kept flowing and before I knew it, I was heading home after 2 a.m.
Nope, we never started the interview, which is actually just fine… It means I’ll have to go back for more mayhem. New York at its finest.
>At the end of August 2009, when I was bunking with Liz Derringer for the summer, working on her memoir, we attended some school charity event in the Hamptons that was chalk full of starfuckers, from Alec Baldwin to a couple “Real Housewives of New York,” infamous publicist Lizzie Grubman, musician Rufus Wainwright, tennis pro Andre Agassi—and Christie Brinkley.
The latter, who celebrated her 57th birthday Wednesday, utterly defied her age, seemingly without benefit of stretching her face behind her ears. She looked wholly organic, beautiful, with a warm smile and a sweet, welcoming personality—which no doubt is how she has maintained her youth. I was 10 inches from the lady; Joan Rivers she is not.
>Liz D. and I took a break Sunday from polishing up our book proposal to check out the post Black-Friday deals at TJ Maxx in Southampton… where I made good on first Christmas presents for Ayhan.
As always, Coco and Jasmine accompanied us throughout the journey, complete with a shopping cart view through Maxx. Gotta love it.
We followed up with my new hobby: pet supplies! Now that Spencer and Abby are in our lives, it’s opened the door to a new shopping destination. Hello, Petco…
Onward to the gargantuan King Kullen grocery for supplies… and back to work… We managed to edit and polish all 44 chapters of our synopsis over the three-day weekend. It’s time to reignite our year’s-plus worth of work on “Joyride.”
